About
Begun in the early thirteenth century, the castle was bought by the Butlers, later Earls and Dukes of Ormonde, in 1391 and remained theirs until 1967. Its restored rooms reflect Victorian country-house life, and the Long Gallery with its painted roof and portraits is the highlight.
Best time to go: Tour the interior in the morning, then walk off into the parkland along the River Nore.
