About
The Gothic cathedral dates largely from the thirteenth century and stands on the site of the monastery of St Canice, from which Kilkenny takes its name. Beside it rises a round tower more than a thousand years old, and inside are fine medieval tomb effigies of the Butler family.
Best time to go: Climb the round tower for the best view in town; it is steep and has ladders.
