About
The One Pillar Pagoda is a historic Buddhist temple in Hanoi's Ba Đình district, close to the Thăng Long Citadel. Its best-known part is the Lotus Pedestal, a small shrine built on a single pillar so that it resembles a lotus rising from the water. The original pagoda dates from 1049 and was completed in 1105. It is regarded, with the Hương Temple, as one of the two best-known temples in Vietnam.
