About
Opened in the 1860s and named after the Liberal governor Santos Degollado, the theatre is one of Mexico's grandest nineteenth-century playhouses. Its ceiling is painted with a scene inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy, and its pediment shows Apollo and the Muses above a stage still in regular use.
Best time to go: Catch a performance by the Jalisco Philharmonic or a Sunday folklore show to see the interior at its best.
