Museum
The museum of the cathedral works: Ghiberti's original Gates of Paradise, Michelangelo's late Pietà and Donatello's Magdalene.
Many of the originals from the Duomo, Baptistery and bell tower are kept here out of the weather. The main hall recreates the lost medieval facade of the cathedral at full scale, with its original statues. Do not miss Michelangelo's Bandini Pietà, carved in his seventies.
Best time to go: Afternoon, after climbing the dome; it is included in the cathedral pass and often quiet.

Traffic zone
The whole historic centre is a ZTL watched by cameras at every entry gate. Without a permit you are fined by post, often months later and through your rental company. Sectors A, B and O apply Monday to Friday 7:30 to 20:00 and Saturday 7:30 to 16:00; from April to early October a night ZTL also runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Park outside and walk in.
