About

Michelozzo built the palace for Cosimo the Elder in the 1440s, setting the pattern for Florentine palaces. Upstairs, the tiny Magi Chapel is covered with Benozzo Gozzoli's frescoes of a procession winding through the Tuscan hills, with members of the Medici family among the riders.

Best time to go: Weekday afternoons; the Magi Chapel admits small groups at a time.
