About

David was moved here from Piazza della Signoria in 1873 to protect it from the weather, and a skylit tribune was built around it. The corridor leading to it is lined with Michelangelo's unfinished Prisoners, which show how he carved. The rest of the museum, including a collection of historic musical instruments, is quieter and worth a slow look.

Best time to go: Late afternoon slot, booked in advance; the gallery is compact, so an hour is enough.
