About
Laid out in the 1920s under the French protectorate, the square is surrounded by the prefecture with its clock tower, the law courts, the main post office and the Bank of Morocco. Together they are the finest ensemble of the Mauresque style, which combined Moroccan arches and tilework with European planning. A large fountain sits at its centre.
Best time to go: Visit in the early evening, when families gather by the fountain and the pigeons are fed.
