About

The Ulugbek Madrasah in Bukhara dates from 1417 and is the oldest preserved madrasah in Central Asia. It was the first of the madrasahs built by Ulugh Beg, and later ones across the region followed its model. It was renovated under Abdullah Khan II in 1586. It is the only Timurid building of this size left in Bukhara and forms a pair with the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah opposite.

Best time to go: Visit in the afternoon and step across to the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah facing it.
