About
Bolo Haouz Mosque was built in 1712 opposite the Ark, in the Registan district of Bukhara. It served as the Friday mosque during the time when the emir was under Bolshevik control in the 1920s. The thin, painted wooden columns of the entrance iwan were added in 1917. Their capitals are decorated with coloured muqarnas, and the mosque is part of the UNESCO-listed historic city.
Best time to go: Visit in the morning, then cross to the Ark opposite; dress modestly.
