About
Lab-i Hauz means 'by the pool', and it is the area around one of the few historic pools left in Bukhara. The city once had many such pools as its main water supply, but most were filled in during the 1920s and 1930s because they spread disease. This one survived because it sits at the centre of an ensemble built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The ensemble has changed little since, and the square remains the city's favourite meeting place.
Best time to go: Come in the evening, when locals gather around the pool and the teahouses are busy.
