About
Built as the city hall at the height of the Dutch Golden Age, the building was turned into a royal palace by Louis Napoleon in 1808. Its vast Citizens' Hall has maps of the world and the heavens set into the marble floor, and the rooms contain one of the finest collections of Empire furniture anywhere.
Best time to go: Use the free audio guide and look down at the marble maps in the floor of the Citizens' Hall.
