About

Uncovered in the 1960s during building work, the small theatre at Kom el-Dikka has rows of marble seats arranged in a horseshoe and may have served as a concert hall or lecture space. The wider excavation reveals Roman baths, lecture halls and the Villa of the Birds, whose floor mosaics are among the finest found in Egypt.

Best time to go: Visit in the morning and look for the mosaic floors in the Villa of the Birds nearby.
