About
Set in a restored early twentieth-century palace, the museum presents its collection chronologically over three floors: pharaonic in the basement, Graeco-Roman above and Coptic and Islamic at the top. Highlights include finds raised from the sunken remains of the royal quarter in the harbour, giving a rare glimpse of Cleopatra's city.
Best time to go: Visit early in your stay to get a clear overview of the city's long history before exploring its sites.
