About
According to tradition, a painting of the Virgin Mary survived a great fire in 1731 inside the gate. The gate became a shrine, and candles and votive plaques still fill its passage. Linking the Upper Town with Radićeva Street below, it is one of the most atmospheric corners of old Zagreb, and a statue of Saint George stands nearby.
Best time to go: Pass through quietly, as the gate is also an active place of prayer.
