About
The only space in Venice called a 'piazza', St Mark's Square has been the city's ceremonial centre for a thousand years. The historic cafés Florian and Quadri still have outdoor orchestras; at high tide the square can flood.
Best time to go: At dawn, when it is almost empty, or at night when the café orchestras play.
