About
Since oil was discovered in the North Sea in 1969, Stavanger has been the centre of Norway's petroleum industry. The museum, built to resemble a rig on the edge of the harbour, explains how oil is found and produced and how the industry transformed the country. Full-scale models of equipment, a drilling floor and a theatre make the subject vivid.
Best time to go: Bring children here: they will enjoy the escape chute and the models of oil platforms.
