About
Built from the late thirteenth century to house the republic's government, the Palazzo Pubblico still serves as Siena's town hall. Its upper rooms form the Museo Civico, where Simone Martini's Maestà and Ambrogio Lorenzetti's Allegory of Good and Bad Government show how the medieval city saw itself. The Torre del Mangia rises from its corner.
Best time to go: Give most of your time to the Sala della Pace and its frescoes of good and bad government.
