About
Sharjah Fort, known as Al Hisn, was built in 1820 by Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah. It is a two-storey building of rock, coral and adobe. Most of it was demolished in 1970, leaving a single tower, but the current ruler has had it restored as part of a wider programme to bring back the old town. It stands at the heart of the old town and is the natural starting point for a walk through the heritage area.
