About
Completed in 1971, the mausoleum holds the tombs of Mohammed V, who led Morocco to independence in 1956, and of his sons Hassan II and Prince Moulay Abdallah. Guarded by mounted soldiers in ceremonial dress, it combines traditional craftsmanship, from zellige walls to a carved and gilded ceiling, with a green-tiled pyramidal roof.
Best time to go: Dress modestly and look down into the tomb chamber from the gallery; the guards change regularly.
