About
The Romans built the town of Sala here beside the Bouregreg, and its forum and baths can still be traced. In the fourteenth century the Marinid sultans enclosed the site with walls and a grand gate and made it a royal necropolis. Today the ruined mosque, tiled minaret, sacred eel pool and tangled gardens make it one of Morocco's most romantic sites.
Best time to go: Come late in the afternoon, when the light is soft and the storks return to their nests on the minaret.
