About
Completed in 1886 by an engineer who had trained under Gustave Eiffel, the bridge carries traffic on its lower deck and the metro and pedestrians on the upper one. Crossing high above the river gives a sweeping view over the Ribeira and the port lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Best time to go: Walk across the upper deck at sunset, then descend to the Gaia side for the wine lodges.
