About
Begun in the sixteenth century and rebuilt several times after earthquakes, the cathedral took its present form in the eighteenth century with a richly carved Baroque facade. It anchors the historic centre, where the tree-shaded zócalo, cafés under the arcades and the Alameda de León make the heart of daily life in Oaxaca.
Best time to go: Look in on the way across the zócalo, then linger in the shaded plaza beside it for the street life.
