About
In the New Kingdom, queens, princes and princesses were buried in this quieter valley south of the royal tombs. The jewel is the tomb of Nefertari, the favoured wife of Ramesses II, whose painted walls are among the finest in Egypt, restored to glowing colour. The tombs of the young sons of Ramesses III are also richly decorated.
Best time to go: Buy the separate ticket for the tomb of Nefertari, whose limited visits are well worth the cost.
