About
The emperor Aurangzeb built the Badshahi Mosque between 1671 and 1673, directly opposite Lahore Fort on the northern edge of the old city. Its carved red sandstone walls are inlaid with white marble, and for more than three centuries it was the largest mosque in the world. It is still the third largest in Pakistan and one of the country's defining images. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times.
Best time to go: Come in the late afternoon, when the red sandstone warms in the low sun; dress modestly and leave shoes at the gate.
