About
The Jade Emperor Pagoda, also known as Phước Hải Tự, is a pagoda in District 1 that blends Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian worship. It was founded by a Cantonese merchant, Liu Daoyuan, and received its Buddhist name in 1984. Its halls hold shrines to a wide range of deities, and it remains an active place of worship. President Barack Obama visited it during his state trip to Vietnam in 2016.
Best time to go: Visit in the morning, when the incense smoke is thickest; dress modestly and keep your voice down.
