About
Run by the University of Crete and set in a former power station on the waterfront, the museum uses dioramas and hands-on displays to explain the island's landscapes, its unusual endemic species and its prehistoric dwarf elephants and hippos, along with the seismic forces that shaped the region.
Best time to go: A good choice with children or on a hot afternoon; try the earthquake simulator.
