Graz's old town is one of the best preserved in central Europe, with red-tiled roofs, painted facades and hidden Italianate courtyards. The Hauptplatz and Herrengasse form its heart, and the arcaded courtyard of the Landhaus shows the influence of Italian builders in the Renaissance.
Best time to go: Walk from the Hauptplatz through the lanes and courtyards, peeking into the arcaded Landhaus.
