About
Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi is the largest Hokkien clanhouse in Malaysia and the grandest clan temple in the country. Its elaborate, heavily ornamented architecture reflects the wealth of Penang's Chinese community. The temple keeps its historic setting, with an association building, a traditional theatre and 19th-century rowhouses for clan members. All of them are grouped around Cannon Square in the oldest part of George Town.
Best time to go: Come in the morning for softer light on the carvings, and look up at the roof ridges before you go inside.
