About
The Clan Jetties are a waterfront neighbourhood of wooden houses on stilts along Weld Quay. Each of the seven surviving jetties belongs to residents of one Chinese clan: Ong, Lim, Chew, Tan, Lee, Yeoh and a mixed clan. The settlements grew between the 1880s and the 1960s, and nine were built in total. Since George Town became a World Heritage Site in 2008, the jetties have become a heritage attraction.
Best time to go: Visit in the late afternoon for sunset over the water, and keep voices low: these are people's homes.
