About

Built in the 1870s and 1880s, after Florence's Jews gained full civil rights, the synagogue is one of the largest in southern Europe. Its striped facade, horseshoe arches and green dome stand out on the skyline. The museum upstairs tells the story of the community, from the ghetto to the Second World War.

Best time to go: Weekday mornings; closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays.
