About
Created in the fifteenth century beside the royal palace in Fes Jdid, the Mellah was home to one of North Africa's great Jewish communities. Its outward-facing wooden balconies set it apart from the inward-looking medina houses. The seventeenth-century Ibn Danan Synagogue has been restored, and the cemetery's rows of white tombs slope down towards the walls.
Best time to go: Walk it after the Royal Palace, and visit the restored Ibn Danan Synagogue and the old cemetery.
