About
Under István Dobó a small garrison, helped by the townswomen, resisted a far larger Ottoman force in 1552, a story immortalised in Géza Gárdonyi's novel Eclipse of the Crescent Moon. Visitors can walk the walls, explore underground passages and see the ruins of the medieval cathedral and the Gothic bishop's palace.
Best time to go: Arrive early, walk the ramparts first and then explore the casemates beneath them.
