About
A light-filled Victorian hall joins a modern sandstone wing devoted to the story of Scotland, from its geology to the present day. Look out for the Lewis Chessmen, the Maiden guillotine and Dolly the cloned sheep, and leave time for the natural history and technology galleries.
Best time to go: Finish on the roof terrace, which looks over the Old Town to the castle.
