About
Designed by William Henry Playfair and opened in 1859, the gallery holds works by Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, Vermeer and Monet. Its Scottish rooms are a highlight, with Raeburn's portrait of a skating minister and paintings by Allan Ramsay and David Wilkie.
Best time to go: Drop in between the Old and New Towns; it sits beside the steps on the Mound.
