About
Founded by Indian traders in the early 1880s on what was then Grey Street, the mosque has been enlarged several times into one of the largest in the country. Its gilded domes and slender minarets rise above the busy streets of the old Indian quarter, and guides are often on hand to show visitors the prayer hall and explain its history.
Best time to go: Visit outside prayer times, dressed modestly, and explore the nearby Victoria Street Market afterwards.
