About
Sheltered by the long ridge of the Bluff, Durban's natural harbour attracted the first European settlers in the 1820s and made the city's fortune. Today it handles more cargo than any other port in sub-Saharan Africa. Harbour cruises and waterside restaurants give a close view of container ships, tugs and yachts against the backdrop of the city.
Best time to go: Take a harbour cruise in the late afternoon for close views of the ships and the city skyline.
