About
Founded in 1849 on the slopes of the Berea, the garden grew from an experimental plot for tropical crops into a grand Victorian park. It holds a celebrated collection of cycads, including a specimen of Encephalartos woodii, extinct in the wild, as well as an orchid house, a sunken garden and a lake shaded by giant trees.
Best time to go: Visit in the morning, stop at the lakeside tea garden and look for the rare cycad collection.
