About
Construction began in 1248 to house the relics of the Three Magi, but work stopped for centuries and the cathedral was only completed in 1880. Its twin spires rise to about 157 metres, and the soaring interior holds the golden Shrine of the Three Kings, medieval stained glass and the Gero Cross. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Best time to go: Visit the nave early, then climb the 533 steps of the south tower for views over the Rhine.
