About
Begun in the late fourteenth century and enlarged in the fifteenth, the brick chedi was once one of the tallest structures in the Lanna kingdom before an earthquake brought down its upper part. It housed the Emerald Buddha for several decades, and elephant sculptures and naga staircases still guard its great weathered base.
Best time to go: Visit in the afternoon and stop for a friendly monk chat, offered to visitors in the grounds.
