The church's brick tower is one of the tallest in the Low Countries and dominates the Bruges skyline. Inside is the Madonna and Child by Michelangelo, one of the few of his sculptures to leave Italy in his lifetime, bought by a Bruges merchant. The choir holds the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and her father Charles the Bold.
Best time to go: Head straight for Michelangelo's Madonna, then see the painted tombs in the choir.
