About
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed the villa for Fritz and Grete Tugendhat, and it was completed in 1930. Its open living space, with a wall of golden onyx and huge windows that slide down into the floor, was revolutionary; the house was carefully restored and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2001.
Best time to go: Book a guided tour well in advance, as numbers inside the house are strictly limited.
