About
Founded in the thirteenth century by the kings of Bohemia, Špilberk was rebuilt as a Baroque citadel and served the Habsburgs as a feared prison for political opponents. Visitors can explore the damp casemates beneath the walls, exhibitions on Brno's history and the lookout tower above the old town.
Best time to go: Climb the wooded hill in the afternoon and finish on the ramparts as the city lights come on.
