About
A church has stood on Petrov Hill since the Middle Ages, but the present cathedral owes its look to the neo-Gothic spires added in the early twentieth century. Legend says the defenders saved the city in 1645 by ringing noon an hour early, prompting the Swedish army to lift its siege, and the bells still do so today.
Best time to go: Listen for the bells ringing noon at eleven o'clock, a tradition from the Swedish siege of 1645.
