About
Built in the 1840s on a single high arch, the Nydeggbrücke gave Bern its first level crossing over the deep river valley, replacing a steep descent to the older Untertorbrücke below. From its parapets there are fine views of the green Aare, the arcaded rooftops of the old town and the Minster tower, and the Bärengraben lies just across on the far bank.
Best time to go: Cross in the late afternoon for the view of the Aare curving around the old town below.
