About
Bears have been kept in Bern since at least the sixteenth century, and the old bear pit dates from 1857. Since 2009 the animals have lived in a larger riverside enclosure on the slope down to the Aare, and the site gives a lovely view back across the river to the old town.
Best time to go: Cross the Nydegg Bridge in the morning, when the bears are often most active.
