About
From the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, German merchants of the Hanseatic League ran a trading post here, exchanging grain for dried cod from the north. Fires repeatedly swept the wharf, but the buildings were rebuilt in the traditional way, and the site is now listed by UNESCO. Behind the famous facades lie creaking alleys, workshops and small galleries.
Best time to go: Explore the narrow wooden passages behind the facades early in the morning, when they are quiet.
