About
In the thirteenth century Bergen was the capital of Norway, and the royal residence stood here. Haakon's Hall, a great stone banqueting hall built in the 1260s, and the Rosenkrantz Tower, a sixteenth-century fortified residence, are the highlights. The fortress grounds are open for walks along the walls and lawns.
Best time to go: Visit the grounds in the evening, when the harbour light falls on Haakon's Hall and the tower.
