About
The church dates back to the twelfth century and was rebuilt several times after fires, so Romanesque, Gothic and later elements sit side by side. It became the cathedral after the Reformation. A cannonball fired during the Battle of Vågen in 1665, when English ships attacked a Dutch fleet in the harbour, remains embedded in the tower wall.
Best time to go: Look for the cannonball lodged in the west wall of the tower before stepping inside.
