About
In the fifth century BC Pericles rebuilt the Acropolis after the Persian wars, raising the Parthenon, the Erechtheion with its Caryatid porch, the Propylaia gateway and the small Temple of Athena Nike. Walking among them gives views across the whole city to the sea, and the restoration work is an absorbing story in itself.
Best time to go: Climb up at opening time or in the last hours of the day, when the marble glows and the crowds thin.
